You will die tomorrow. What if that were true…and how do you know it’s not? A twinkie could get stuck in your airhole as you are racing down the stairs in a parking garage, late for work. You claw at your throat desperately trying to dislodge the golden sponge cake and cream flavored filling.
Lightheaded from lack of oxygen, you tumble down the concrete stairs striking your head repeatedly and impaling yourself on a wet floor sign. The last thing you hear before fading into oblivion is a homeless person coming to take your shoes and go through your pockets.
If you knew you were going to die, would you review your life with regret or satisfaction? What actions would you take with the time remaining? We are all guilty of believing we can do it later, or there will be time tomorrow. We put off important actions out of laziness and the confidence we will live forever.
Life passes very quickly. You don’t have time to waste on purposeless activities and negative people. Enjoy life, yes, experience it to the fullest, but know what your purpose is and pursue it with all of your energy.
How do you find your purpose?
You don’t. It will find you. Actively pursue things that interest you or spark passion in you. Find work that keeps you engaged and causes you to leap out of bed in the morning. Associate with people that make you happy and challenge you. Learn constantly and try new things. Your purpose will become obvious.
I have always wanted to help people, and I have done that in many ways through various jobs and activities. I ultimately decided that I needed to educate and improve myself to successfully help others. I’ve found a real passion in improvement. I have a burning desire to influence and inspire others to reach their true potential.
Am I engaging completely where my passions are? Not even close, but I work on it every day. Have I reached my true potential and achieved all of my goals. No, and I doubt that I will because my vision of myself and my goals grows bigger every day. The more I learn and the more I attempt in the direction of my purpose the happier I become.
You will die tomorrow
Time is precious. We do not know how much remains. Pursue your passions and cultivate your relationships. Leave a legacy that is more than a list of shows you watched on Netflix. Eat your Twinkie slowly, savoring the taste and texture. Live with intention today because tomorrow might not come.
